Default Couple runs with the new Auto setup

Hey guys, as some of you know the trucks running an auto now. Real happy with the swap. 4L80e is a heavy girl, but so far so good.

Girlfriend caught some video of my first two runs. After some research i'm currently 2nd fastest stock block 4.8L/truck. Fastest to date is 11.0, so i'm going to do my best to snag it and be the first in the 10's. Wish me luck!

caltracs seem to be the trick to 60 footing on leaf springs.

Good Luck with that Tru Trac. I broke mine last year and went to a full spool in my 12 bolt. I have heard nothing but problems with them breaking.

You running a stick car or auto? So far I love the engagment of the rear, we'll see how far it goes slinging this rig around.

Its been my experience on trucks with leafs caltracs are only good to around 500rwhp but that's also dependent on a lot of factors.

I got an auto. I started noticing what I thought was wheel hop. It turned out to be the Tru Trac. Something in the way it was engaging while taking off with the slicks. I guess it just could not take the 1.4 60's. I called Eaton about it thinking that they would stand behind it and they said that it was designed to be an off road diff. and not a race diff. I then asked them why they made them to go in the 12 bolts and ford 9" for drag racing. DUH.

here are some pics of the damage.

I was still able to drive mine. I stopped before making a run as the driver side wheel would not engage. It had a popping in it. If I would have made the run there is no telling what king of damage it would have done.

I know many s10's pushing well over 500hp that use Caltracs with good results. One of them runs at Bowman and is a good friend of Lxtasy's and mine.

My old truck had a tru trac in it. I never had a problem out of it, cutting 1.4x 60's @ 4850lbs. I wonder if the wheel hop was before the differential gave out, and if that could of contributed to the failure.

Like I said many factors contribute to the caltracs success or failure. The weight difference between a S10 and a full size truck could be one of them. All I can say is there were two local trucks that everybody here knows that the caltracs didnt work on.

If you read around, any truck has problem's with cal trac's. The stiffer the spring, the farther you can go with them, the softer, the earlier they will show you their weakness. It also depends on weight, the heavier the front, the worse it is.

Their design unloads the wrap onto the tires and hits them back with the force of the axle, its called anti-squat, and coupled with a light rear end of a truck becomes an unloading problem.

I had this problem and got it fixrd with longer bars that actually mount to the frame, adjustable shocks didn't help, I even tried adding load leaf's to stiffen up my springs, nothing worked till I threw the cal-tracs in the trash.

Again, they were fine in the 1.6-1.7 60 ft range, but once I started cutting mid 1.5's they would unload.

I also had similar problems to what Randy had.
