square ports make good power but a cathedral port will run circles around them at the track

who here with Cathedral ports is better than that, just wondering?

Not really garbage, but results on anything with less than a 4.060 bore get trashed by cathedral ports.
duh Valve shrouding and a big ass chamber seem to be causes. 68cc is a big ass chamber? I was also told that people blow it on cam selection for these heads badly. "Where most guys blow it is not closing the intake valve soon enough. With the air flow the square ports have, and how large the valve is, air speed is very high at low lifts. This doesn't need much valve overlap to help accelerate the charge into the cylinder." not enough compression Guy went on to say that the heads are super picky to cams and the window of valve events to make good power is much smaller in comparison to the cathedral ports. big comp, big cam. little comp, little cam Just what I was told.

LS3 heads are hard to beat for the money. Like already mentioned they are picky with cam selection but that doesnt make them a bad head. C6 6 speed vette, cam, cai, headers, 495rwhp is pretty good IMO. My G8 just made almost 400 through auto with a ls9 cam (not best NA cam at all) and stock ls3 top end. For a stock head thats fairly cheap they arent bad at all. You cant compare a stock head to a trick flow or any after market casting, I hope the after market heads blows away a stock head, lol.

But I agree, theyre good for the money for sure. But is it really worhlth it for me, who already has a cathedral style fast intake, would have to get the heads worked, new springs, pushrods and a new intake and fuel rail rather than just buy a set of trickflows? I havent decided yet lol. Last edited by GreebeanZ28; 11-13-2013 at 06:04 AM. |

Well, this is a little bit of an open ended question, since there are so many variables to making power, but I know Adam's motor is right at 600 crankshaft hp with ported 243's. Now if you are talking, stock, untouched ports and valves, then it wouldn't be a good example.

at least 104 at 3300lbs right? if he is lighter than that, which I think is possible, then the MPH would have to be higher
