you've gotta swap the bell housing at a minimum and tail shafts i believe. you'll also need to do some wiring, get a new driveshaft and you'll lose a ton of time since its probably a 2.66 first gear T56 and not a 3.33 like a 5-speed mustang has. stock cobra T56 has a 2.97 first gear.

oh ok, im not gonna bother with it then. im debating on buying the promotionperformance 700hp t45 or picking up a stock t56, both will be around the same price.

I'd have the t45 built. Lighter, better ratios and takes less power to turn.

grab the t56 you speak of and the corresponding ls motor!

If you plan to race go auto if not built t45.

quit reading the internet... ironic i know...

you'll twist the input shaft off the T56 and a T45 at the same time, both are crappy 10-spline. I think promotion still offers a proshifted T45 for less than 2k...

If you were road racing, I'd say go with the t56. They have a much taller first gear making all the rest of the gears closer together. That same tall first gear will kill you trying to take off at the track though, making you have to run something like a 4.33 gear to make it the same as it was before. Talk to Walt at Promotion, he can guide you the way. At least I think he still works there, lol.

Wait a taller first gear makes all the gears closer together? I think you mean less split between 1-2 nothing else.

What's the power level, cars primary use and budget are all you need to ask yourself.
