Default Screw a 10 bolt

well i dont know who has heard and who hasnt so i figured i would fill you all in on how it went down. made a few motor passes then put the bottle in it. well picked up .7 tenths the first pass and 4 the second both with low bottle pressure. so we put a full bottle in and i shot it from home and spun. then i let out and shot it again. this time the rear end decided to leave us hanging. drivers side axle flew out and truck his the ground, and started going around in circles. well some how i didnt hit a wall and the only things hurt was the bedside and the rear end, so time to upgrade, there is a video that i hope will be up soon. thanks to all my friends for helping me get it off the track and loading it up. couldnt have done it without yall. next time lets pill it up and go a lil faster.

BTW got a new best.....

Thanks guys for all the help

Sorry to hear that Tyler. I know how it feels to brake a axle. Almost took out the tree!

what about Hal's Explorer rear end with rear disc?

is that a reasonable swap?

Very easy to do. Doesn't consume the power of a 9". Great for street trucks with no power to mild power levels. We have no traction devices and all and cut alot of 1.5 60ft on drag radials on them. Rear end is taking it. It has been wheel hopped big time and no damage and all.

I agree, if your making huge torque then i would go with a built 9" but an 8.8" has a better design and can take a beating, not to mention plenty of cheap parts to fix it with. Can't say I would ever install Eaton brand guts in my 8.8", seen too many failures.

Ahh, but how much more HP does a 9" use than an 8.8"? Who cares, 8.8" rears are plentiful and fairly dependable.

Man, Tyler, that sucks. Atleast noone got hurt and you kept it off the wall. Look at the bright side: You get to put a Ford rear in the truck. That should be good for a couple tenths, on its own. Everybody knows it takes Ford parts to make a GM go fast.

***COUGH*** ***COUGH*** do I need to post video again of an all gm with the ford in the rearview mirror. I beleive the only Ford part was a taurus fan.

Scotty, The explorer rears are 31 spline and either 3.73's or 4.10's from the factory. Unlike the mustangs. new edge mustangs 8.8's have two things going against them. first 28 spline axles and 2nd the length of the smaller axles too. Axle flex is a bitch on hard launches. The explorer rears are heaver axles and for the s10 they are much shorter than the mustangs and do not have axle flex on launch. it's the best bang for the buck. 9 in rears rob a lot more power than a 8.8 do I have the numbers No, not off hand but the internet does and if I need further proof I will post. but we all have google.

8.8 swaps are very common and as you also stated, there are plenty of parts in the junk yards. Also if you find the right years you get a rear disc brake conversion free.

Tyler sorry to hear about the rear, but as I told you... it wasn't IF it would break it's WHEN it will break. If you need help with the 8.8 give a me a holler.

Still... It had Ford parts on it. Without getting into a "Hal Marvin, Jr" style debate with you, I would hope that the Blazer would gap my Mustang. It has a whole lot more going for it. Even when we first put it together.

Well said Hal, I was curious if the power loss was significant. Just picked up a 9" last night and there just happened to be an Explorer 8.8" sitting next to it with disc brakes and a locker and tall gears.

Suggestion: Use a girdle and pre-load it !
