Default transbrake for 4l60

I'm considering getting a tbrake for my catfish.

Does anyone have any experience with the Rossler tbrakes for the 4l60?

I PMed gearmesh already since he seems to be the go to guy..

I'm just gathering as much info as possible before I make the purchase.

thanks guys for your time.

I just got done looking over Rossler's website and a bunch of comments on LS1 Tech. Most guys seem to like theirs for the most part.

Rossler's website didn't seem to have too much detailed info at all that I could find. According to some forums, reportedly there is a pro tree version and a regular version. I have even seen comments on having to remove the valvebody on the 4L60e to drill an extra passage that doesn't have to be drilled on the 4L80e version.

I found some detailed pics of a Rossler 4L60e TB kit in a classifieds section and looked the parts in the pic over. This kit had stronger reverse clutch piston return springs, and provisions to do away with the wave cushion plates in the reverse input clutch and the low/reverse clutch packs. Of course this requires the trans to come out to install these pieces. Maybe that was just for the pro tree version????

For a reliable transbrake package to last, I would highly recommend starting with at least some 4L65e internals. You get the hardened input shaft, hardened output shaft, hardened stator tube, and 5 pinion planets all from the factory. The only other upgrades that I would do to the rotating assembly would be to install an input drum reinforcement sleeve and a beast sun shell. The aftermarket has all the parts available to put in a regular 4L60e, too, but you will be money ahead if you come across a 4L65e or 4L70e core.

I have also heard that you have to go to a deep pan to clear the transbrake stuff that piggybacks the valvebody. That may be a concern if you have limited ground clearance. I know that on a Fox body Ford, if your run a +3 quart pan on an AOD that it will hang below the header collectors.

My trans is already built. I had the same guy built it that built one for my GTO when it was running 10s at full weight, so it's pretty stout. I know that doesn't give you details on internals but he has a great reputation.
He's all the way in Mesa, az though so that road trip is out of the question. haha.

You're correct about the deep pan being needed. Rossler keeps them in stock.
I'm a stock height fbody and not lowered at all, so no issues there with clearance.

They have two versions.. the "Tree shaker" and the "tree breaker" lol. a little fun in the names.

The Tree breaker is the faster reacting of the two, which is what I would be wanting.

I can handle the install of the TB for you. Just need to see the instructions to see if the valvebody needs dropping for drilling a passage.

okie dokie. I spoke to Carl over at rossler and said the instructions were pretty detailed.
He said it did require trans disassembly, but thats as much as I could tell you cause the rest is over my head. lol

Shoot me a PM with your phone number so we can hash out some details about installation estimates and so forth.

no hurry though because I can't even buy it until the 1st and i'm going out of town on the 3rd until the 18th.

PM sent. Sounds like that tree breaker version is the one I saw with the pics of the internal parts in an old classified ad on LS1tech.com.
